Setting Up Loansome Doc Account to Request Articles

When requesting articles, please be sure to use your Community Memorial/ VCU Health Email Address when asked for an email during the registration process.  This ensures you are recognized as a member of the VCU community and will not be charged for your article request.

  • Please make sure you use the same email address in each document. 
  • If you have had your email change to one with, please change your email in your Docline account.  

How to Set Up a Loansome Doc Account – 2 Step Process

Part 1: VCU Registration

  1. Choose the category - Be Sure to Select: 

  • Health Care Professionals: users requesting materials for patient care, medical and clinical research
  1. Complete the VCU registration form.
  • Be sure to select "I will accept Electronic Delivery When Available" - will allow articles to be sent your email. 
  • Be sure you select another method of delivery, even though articles will be delivered electronically.
  1. You will receive the VCU identification number you'll need for the second part of the registration.

Part 2: Loansome Doc Registration

  1. Complete NLM's Loansome Doc Registration form.
  • Note your preferred method of delivery.
  • Use the VCU identification number from part 1 for both the library identifier and your authorization code.
  • User Identification -  Select - "I am a health professional, but have no affiliation with this institution"

Requesting Articles After Doing s Search in PubMed

Requesting an Article in PubMed - Video 

  1. Go to PubMed 
  2. Do Your Search in PubMed and Select the Article or Articles You Want 
  • Can select multiple articles by checking the box to the left of each article

     3. Click on "Send to" (To the Right Just Below the Gray Bar)

     4. Select "Order" and then click "Order Articles"

     5. You will be then asked to log into our Loansome Doc Account and will be able to request the articles from VCU Libraries.

     6.  In the notes field of the Docline request, be sure to put "Community Memorial Hospital"

     7. You will receive an email notifying you that your request has been filled from -
