Ready to find an article on your topic? You'll want to use the library's subject-specific research guides.

  • Go to VCU Libraries Research Guides (guides.library.vcu.edu) (linked below)
  • Select the appropriate discipline and then sub-discipline
  •  Next, focus on the recommended databases for sources in this discipline
  • Select one that is relevant to your topic
  • Search for globalization + your topic

For example, a sociology major might go through the following process:

  • Go to VCU Libraries Research Guides (guides.library.vcu.edu) (linked below), select Sociology; select Sociology again
  • Click on SocINDEX (EBSCO)
  • Search for globalization and "indigenous culture"

And an environmental studies major might go through the following process:

  • Go to VCU Libraries Research Guides (guides.library.vcu.edu) (linked below), select Science and Mathematics; select Environmental Sciences
  • Click on Environmental Science Collection (ProQuest)
  • Search for globalization and emissions

The word 'globalization' itself will probably not appear, but issues related to globalization--multilingualism in schools, outsourcing in business, etc.--will.

  • IBISWorld
    • Search the profession you're interested 
    • Select the most closely matching profession(s)
    • Look in the "Operating Conditions" and "Industry Outlook" sections using the tabs at the top of the page
  • Occupational Outlook Handbook
    • Search the profession you're interested 
    • Select the most closely matching profession(s)
    • Look in the "What They Do" section
  • O*NET:
    • Search the profession you're interested 
    • Select the most closely matching profession(s)
    • Browse the listed skills, clicking the + sign at the top of each section to see all skills
    • Click the + sign next to each skill for additional information about that skill
  • The Vault
    • Search the profession you're interested, then select 'Articles' from the lefthand menu
