IACUC and Animal Welfare

The National Agricultural Library’s Animal Welfare Information Center (AWIC) regularly updates its Web site with links to its newest publications, database updates, published reports, and topical animal welfare news from various sources. The Web site also includes information about workshops and many other services.

Altweb was created to serve as a gateway to alternatives news, information, and resources on the Internet and beyond. Altweb contains a wealth of resources for researchers and technicians such as “A step-by-step approach to an alternatives search”

The Association of Veterinarians for Animal Rights actively works toward the acquisition of rights for all nonhuman animals by educating the public and the veterinary profession about a variety of issues concerning nonhuman animal use.

The Institute of Laboratory Animal Research (ILAR) evaluates and disseminates information on issues related to the scientific, technological, and ethical use of animals and related biological resources in research, testing, and education. Using the principles of refinement, reduction, and replacement (3Rs) as a foundation, ILAR promotes high-quality science through the humane care and use of animals and the implementation of alternatives. Publishes ILAR Journal.

The objective of J-STAGE is to strive for acceleration and internationalization of science and technology information transmission and circulation by building on the Internet a uniform flow - from the submission to release of science and technology information.

The Laboratory Animal Unit at The Norwegian School of Veterinary Science plays a central role in the education of those who work with experimental animals. The Unit's primary aim is to ensure that the three R's are followed in practice.

State Statutes Web site was developed and is maintained by the Legal Information Institute (LII), a research and electronic publishing activity of the Cornell Law School. State Statutes contains links to federal and state constitutions, statutes, and codes.

TSAR is a tool to provide a transparent view on the status of alternative methods as they progress from purely scientific protocols submitted for pre-validation to being actively used in a regulatory context. (from the European Commission Joint Research Centre)

The VCU program supporting the humane care and use of animals includes the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee together with the Office of Research Subject Protections, the Division of Animal Resources, and the Office of Education and Compliance Oversight. These groups work in unison to meet or exceed national standards for the care and use of animals, as evaluated by our program’s accrediting body, the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International.
