I2CRP: International/Inner City/Rural Preceptorship

The mission of the RUPRI Center for Rural Health Policy Analysis is to provide timely analysis to federal and state health policy makers, based on the best available research. The RUPRI Center for Rural Health Policy Analysis is based at the University of Iowa, in the Department of Health Management and Policy at the College of Public Health.

Virginia’s State Office of Rural Health (VA-SORH) is housed in the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) Office of Minority Health and Public Health Policy (OMHPHP) Division of Primary Care and Rural Health. Federally funded since 1991, the purpose of this Office is to strengthen rural health care delivery systems by maintaining a focal point for rural health

About 3 million Veterans enrolled in the VA Health Care System live in rural areas. These rural Veterans sometimes cannot find a way to travel to see a doctor or other health care workers. Rural Veterans might not live near a VA hospital or a VA doctor's office. Some rural Veterans need help to schedule visits to see a doctor or to schedule medical tests or to get medicine from their local drugstore.

ORHP administers grant programs designed to build health care capacity at both the local and State levels. These grants provide funds to 50 State Offices of Rural Health (SORH) to support on-going improvements in care, and to rural hospitals through the Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Grant (Flex).

Virginia's State Rural Health Plan (VA-SRHP) is a 3-5 year strategic plan designed to strengthen the health care infrastructure in rural areas.

The VRHA brings into focus the rapid changes that are occurring within the health care system and their impact on rural Virginia. The VRHA builds upon the traditional strengths of our rural communities, assisting them as they assume more responsibility for their health and health care needs.

A product of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Rural Initiative, the Rural Assistance Center (RAC) was established in December 2002 as a rural health and human services "information portal." RAC helps rural communities and other rural stakeholders access the full range of available programs, funding, and research that can enable them to provide quality health and human services to rural residents.
