Find Patent Citations With Lens

The Lens is a free and open platform to find, analyze, and manage data about patents and scholarly works. You can use Lens to identify patents that have cited your patent(s). Account registration isn't required to search for patent information, but it can be helpful to track your patents over time.

There are multiple methods you can use find information about your patents with the Lens:

  1. Search for a single patent by entering the patent number in the Lens homepage search bar.
  2. Search by inventor with the Patent Search structured search option. Use the "Inventor Name" field and format the name as "LastName FirstName" or "LastName FirstName MiddleInitial" (for example, Jefferson Richard A). You may need to add additional fields with name variants to find all of your patents (for example, searching with and without your middle initial). If so, be sure to change the search predicate to "OR."
  3. Create a free account, then create a collection of all your patents. Choose the dynamic collection option to automatically update the collection whenever new scholarly works or patents matching your saves queries are added to Lens.

For help with these methods, see the Lens guides on:

Find and Claim Your Lens Profile

Lens Profiles are another way to find and track information about your patents and patent citations. Lens Profiles are auto-generated author and inventor profiles based on public ORCID profiles, with scholarly works and patent information compiled from publicly available data sources using the ORCID iD as the linking identifier.

By linking your ORCID account with your Lens account, you can sync your patents and scholarly works across both profiles. You can also find and claim your Lens Profile, as well as add additional patents and scholarly works not yet included on your profile. If you don't have an ORCID iD, visit our ORCID guide to create one. Then, follow these four steps:

Find Patent Citations With Google Patents and Google Scholar

Google Scholar

You can also search for your patents on Google Scholar and add them to your Google Scholar Profile. If you don't have a Google Scholar Profile, learn how to create one.

With Google Scholar, you can view the citing patents just as you would in Google Patents, although the results may not be as comprehensive. However, you might also find articles that have cited your patent.
