Library Orientation

Take a few moments to watch a brief orientation video on the Tompkins-McCaw Library (TML). Here, you'll get acquainted with the services and resources available to you as a VCU student.

Now that you've had a chance to review our library orientation, take this tutorial to practice using the Tompkins-McCaw Library website and accessing our resources:

Searching Databases

‚ÄčThese videos discuss how your topic informs the wording of your research question. You'll see how to build on your topic of interest to craft a searchable research question related to that topic. You'll also see how to search a database and refine your search results to find the studies you’re looking for. Once you've watched the videos, take the practice quiz to make sure you understand how to search the databases. If you would like to practice writing out your search strategy, download the Searching Worksheet located at the bottom of the first page of this guide.

In this final video, you will see how to select, download, and save the citations and corresponding articles you’ll need to complete your assignment.

Writing and Citing in APA

VCU Libraries has updated its holdings to include the new 7th edition of the American Psychological Association's (APA) Style Guide. There are no online copies of the style guide available at this time.

The following resources will help you see examples of properly formatted citations in the APA format.

Consult the VCU Libraries' research guides for more information on citation styles and tools.
