The Workshop Equipment Basics

The Workshop, located in the lower level of Cabell Library at VCU, has a circulating collection of multimedia equipment. Equipment items are loaned to the VCU community on a first-come, first-served basis. Loans are for three days with one three-day renewal allowed by logging into My Account.

This guide offers suggestions for equipment for video, audio, photography and presentation projects. Each section has recommendations for equipment with increasing tiers of complexity. You can browse all of the equipment The Workshop offers on the Equipment for Loan page.

Stop by the Workshop to borrow equipment and get assistance on how to operate the equipment.

Garrett Ace 300 Metal Detector

Did you know that The Workshop has a metal detector available for loan?

A metal detector is an electronic instrument that detects the presence of metal nearby. They are useful for finding metal objects buried underground or metal elements hidden within objects. Metal detectors generally consists of a sensor probe that is swept over the ground - when the sensor comes near a piece of metal, it produces a particular audible tone. The Garrett Ace 300 is an easy to use metal detector that has different tones for different metals and target distances.
